Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process. Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. If you want you can located them in the above location and delete them, too.

Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. Most applications create preference files which are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. You need to be sure you remove all the elements of the software not just the startup item:

I also wonder why it clearly is starting for Tiger. According to MacFixit, StartupItems are being deprecated, so I'm wondering what this code does and what applications it's associated with. If someone with a fairly new clean install of Leopard can look to see if it is installed by default, I'd appreiciate it.

I googled it and Interlok (the firm that wrote it) specializes in copy protection. Edit for this forum: I'm reposting here as this forum is still more active than the Leopard forum and the last bit of code indicates that this is also a Tiger issure.ĭoes anyone know what this little bit of startup code does?Įdit for this forum: Does anyone know what the effect of removing this from /Library/StartUpItems is?ġ1/29/07 3:57:13 PM () Unknown key: ServiceDescriptionġ1/29/07 3:57:13 PM () Unknown key: SHAuthorizationRightġ1/29/07 3:57:13 PM () Unknown key: SHAuthorizationRightġ1/29/07 3:57:23 PM 53 kextload: extension /System/Library/Extensions/PACESupportFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/PACESupportL eopard.kext is already loadedġ1/29/07 3:57:25 PM 33 Starting CleanApp Daemonġ1/29/07 3:57:25 PM 33 PACESupport - Copying the launchd plistġ1/29/07 3:57:25 PM 33 PACESupport Tiger - Starting
